Valve Clearance, Check And Adjust For Cummins 4.5L Diesel Engine

Rotate the engine to TDC for cylinder number one (intake and exhaust valves closed)

Valve Adjustment for Cylinder 1

Adjust valves shown in Figure 89 by loosening the lock nut

Tighten the lock nut to 24 N•m (18 lbf in)

GM 4.3L Engine - Fan and Alternator Drive Belt Check

Inspect drive belt for wear and damage

Identify types of cracks on the belt

Are there any cracks running the length of the belt?

Are there any missing pieces on the belt?

Is the drive belt in acceptable condition?

Ensure the following precautions are observed

Check the heel of the forks with a penetrant or by magnetic particle inspection

Check the attachment points of the forks with a penetrant or by magnetic particle inspection

Ensure the engine compartment is free from obstacles

Check for the presence of combustible materials

Remove any combustible materials found

Remove the center body fill/level plug to allow faster oil drainage.

Place an empty container under the center body drain plug.

Remove the center body drain plug and wait until oil has drained completely.

Install drain plug for the center body and tighten to 30 to 50 N•m (22 to 37 lbf ft).

Is the truck parked and on level ground before adding oil?

Add oil at the fill/level port for the center body until overflow occurs.

Install oil fill/level plug and tighten to 30 to 50 N•m (22 to 37 lbf ft).
