Wear protective goggles or a face shield

Ensure the path of compressed air is away from all personnel

Follow manufacturer's recommendations when using cleaning solvents

Lift Chain Removal and Cleaning

Soak the lift chains in a petroleum-based solvent for at least 30 minutes

Adjust compressed air output to a maximum of 103 kPa (15 psi)

Use compressed air to completely dry the chains

Warning: At operating temperature, the center section oil is hot. Do not permit the hot oil to touch the skin and cause a burn.

Caution: Do not permit dirt to enter the center body when the oil level is checked. Dirt will contaminate the oil and cause damage to the center body of the axle.

Remove the center body fill/level plug

Add oil at the fill/level port until the oil/fill level port has overflowed

Install the center body oil/level fill level plug and tighten to 30 to 50 N·m (22 to 37 lbf ft)

Lower the lift mechanism completely

Ensure no person is under a raised carriage

Ensure all parts of the mast are completely lowered and the engine is STOPPED before putting any part of your body in or through the lift mechanism

Do not attempt to correct the alignment of the fork tips by bending the forks or adding shims

Do not repair damaged forks by heating or welding; replace the forks as a set if either fork is damaged

Ensure lateral fork stops are in place before operating the forklift

Inspection of Mast and Carriage

Inspect welds on mast and carriage for cracks; Ensure cap screws and nuts are tight

Test LPG/Gas Regulator Pressure

Refer to LPG Fuel System, GM 4.3L Engine With GFI 900 YRM 1242 and Gasoline Fuel System, GM 4.3L Engine With GFI 900 YRM 1244 for detailed instructions.

Check Throttle Shaft For Sticking

Check throttle body return action to ensure throttle shaft is not sticking.

Inspect Exhaust Manifold And Piping For Leaks

Check the following for leaks and ensure all components are secure

Visually inspect converter for correct muffler and tail pipe mounting.

Check for leaks at the converter

Check brake lining and parts of the brake assembly for wear or damage.

The minimum acceptable brake lining thickness is 1.0 mm (0.040 in.); If brake linings are worn thinner than the specification, replace the brake linings; See section Brake System 1800 YRM 1247 for the removal and installation procedures of the drive wheels and brake drums; If the brake linings or brake shoes are worn or damaged, they must be replaced; Brake shoes must be replaced in complete sets; Inspect brake drums for cracks or damage.

Brake linings can contain dangerous fibers; Breathing the dust from these brake linings is a cancer or lung disease hazard; DO NOT create dust; DO NOT clean brake parts with compressed air or by brushing; Follow the cleaning procedure in this section; When the brake drums are removed, DO NOT create dust.

DO NOT sand, grind, chisel, hammer, or change linings in any way that will create dust; Any changes to brake linings must be done in a restricted area with special ventilation; Protective clothing and a respirator must be used.

Brake cleaning procedures are as follows

DO NOT use an oil solvent to clean the wheel cylinder; Use a solvent approved for cleaning of brake parts; DO NOT permit oil or grease in the brake fluid or on the brake linings.
