Inspect ratchet pins for deformation

Inspect check valve and stop valve

Confirm normal function of valves

Inspect the check valve for any signs of wear or damage

Inspect the stop valve for any signs of wear or damage

Ensure the check valve is protecting the pump from reverse flow and excessive backpressure

Ensure the stop valve is functioning correctly during priming, starting, and shutdown of the pump

Close the stop valve before stopping the pump

Check for any unusual noises or vibrations when the pump is operated against a high static head

Record any issues found during the inspection

Ensure the volume and quality of lubrication oil are in compliance with specifications

Check motion of the oil ring to ensure it is not clamped

Measure the shaft endplay and ensure it is within the specified range of the red groove of the shaft or ±0.118 in. (±3mm) range of the drive-end shaft shoulder

Bearing protection — anti-friction bearings

Rotate the shaft several revolutions to maintain proper grease distribution

Has a significant period of time elapsed since manufacture or during storage?

Re-grease the bearings if necessary

Replenish and purge with fresh grease at start up

Ensure safety precautions are taken before disassembly

Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil sump

Remove all instrumentation sensors in contact with the bearing sleeve

Remove the socket head bolts holding the bearing cap and inner air seal

Remove the bearing cap and top half of the inner air seal and place them on a clean, dry surface

Remove the top half of the bearing sleeve using suitable eyebolts

Remove the screws at the partings in the oil ring and dismantle the ring

Pull up on the garter spring and remove the floating labyrinth seal
