Section 3 — Lubrication Procedure

Ensure lubrication is done with the motor running, stay clear of rotating parts and electrical circuits

Avoid over-lubricating the motor

Relubricate with the shaft stationary and a warm motor is recommended

Locate the grease inlet, clean the area and replace the pipe plug with a grease fitting, if the motor is not equipped with grease fittings

Clean caked grease around the plug with a wooden stick or suitable tool

If severe caking appears at the plug, run the motor until the bearing housing is warm

Locate the motor nameplate and find the recommended lubricant type and volume

Refer to motor nameplate for lubricant type

Use only clean, fresh grease from clean containers

Has grease compatibility been checked and verified?

Contact Baldor District Office for compatibility questions, if any

Select the operating temperature range and corresponding lubricant

Ensure safety precautions are followed if lubrication is done with motor running

Ensure not to over-lubricate motor

Storage — Ball and Roller Bearing Motor Shafts

Rotate motor shafts manually every 3 months

Grease motor shafts every 6 months as per the Maintenance section

Storage — All Other Motor Types, Before Storage

Remove the grease drain plug on the bottom of each bracket before lubricating

Grease the motor with regreaseable bearing as instructed in Section 3

Replace the grease drain plug after greasing

Rotate the motor shaft a minimum of 15 times after greasing

Storage — All Other Motor Types, Periodic

Is the motor running 1800 RPM and slower under standard conditions?

Is the motor operating 16 plus hours per day?

Is the ambient temperature maximum 50°C?

Is there moderate dirt and corrosion?

Is the motor 1 thru 7-1/2 HP running at 1800 RPM or less?

Ensure sleeve bearing (oil lube) motors are drained of oil prior to shipment

Refill oil reservoirs to the indicated level with the specified lubricant
