Storage — Non-Regreaseable Motors

Rotate the motor shaft 15 times to redistribute the grease within the bearing

Rotate ball and roller bearing motor shafts manually

Has the motor been greased in the last 6 months?

Record the current oil level in the sight gauge

Is the oil level at the midpoint of the sight gauge when the motor is at rest?

Is the oil level at the midpoint of the sight gauge when the motor is in operation?

Adjust oil level if necessary to reach the midpoint of the sight gauge

Storage — Preparation for Storage

Measure and record the resistance of the winding insulation (dielectric withstand)

Is the motor insulation resistance above the minimum resistance?

Contact OEM if motor insulation resistance decreases below the minimum resistance

Place new desiccant inside the vapor bag and re-seal by taping it closed

If a zipper-closing type bag is used, zip the bag closed instead of taping it

Place new desiccant inside bag after each monthly inspection

Place the shell over the motor and secure with lag bolts

Storage — Minimum insulation resistance

Section 3 — Periodic Inspection

Listen for any abnormal noises and check cause immediately

Check for any vibration and check cause immediately if excessive vibration is found

Check voltage and frequency variations

Is there any unbalanced voltage or single phase operation of poly phase motors?

Check power supply total harmonic distortion

Periodic checks of phase, voltage, frequency, and power consumption of an operating motor are recommended

Check to see that air filters, when used, are in place and clean

Check all air passages and ensure that they are not blocked or clogged

Refer to motor nameplate for lubricant specifications

Use only clean, fresh grease from clean containers

Has grease compatibility been checked and verified?

Contact Baldor District Office for compatibility questions, if any

Select the operating temperature range and corresponding lubricant

Ensure safety precautions are followed if lubrication is done with motor running

Ensure not to over-lubricate motor
