2 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Re-Lubrication
Section 3 — Lubrication Procedure
Ensure lubrication is done with the motor stationary and warm
Locate the grease inlet, clean the area, and replace the pipe plug with a grease fitting if necessary
Remove relief plug and clean if grease is caked
Is there severe caking at the plug?
Run the motor until the bearing housing is warm if severe caking is present
Locate the motor nameplate and find the recommended lubricant type and volume
Add the recommended volume of lubricant using a hand-operated grease gun
Run the motor for 2 hours with the relief plug removed

Listen for any abnormal noises and check cause immediately
Check for any vibration and check cause immediately if excessive vibration is found
Check voltage and frequency variations
Is there unbalanced voltage or single phase operation of poly phase motors?
Check power supply total harmonic distortion
Periodic checks of phase, voltage, frequency, and power consumption
Compare data with previous no load and full load power demands
Check to see that air filters, when used, are in place and clean

Is the motor running 1800 RPM and slower under standard conditions?

Is the motor running 16 plus hours per day under severe conditions?

Recommended Lubricant
Refer to motor nameplate for lubricant type
Use only clean, fresh grease from clean containers
6 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Storage — Ball and Roller Bearing Motor Shafts
Rotate motor shafts manually every 3 months
Grease motor shafts every 6 months according to the Maintenance section
Storage — All Other Motor Types, Before Storage
Remove the grease drain plug on the bottom of each bracket before lubricating the motor
Grease the motor with regreaseable bearing as instructed in Section 3
Replace the grease drain plug after greasing
Rotate the motor shaft a minimum of 15 times after greasing
