Section 3 — Lubrication Procedure

Ensure lubrication is done with the motor stationary and warm

Locate the grease inlet and clean the area

Is the motor equipped with grease fittings?

Replace the pipe plug with a grease fitting if not equipped

Is grease caked around the plug?

Clean caked grease with a wooden stick or suitable tool

Is there severe caking at the plug?

Storage — Non-Regreaseable Motors

Rotate the motor shaft 15 times to redistribute the grease within the bearing

Rotate ball and roller bearing motor shafts manually

Has the motor been greased in accordance with the Maintenance section of the manual?

Storage — Preparation for Storage

Measure and record the resistance of the winding insulation (dielectric withstand)

Is the motor insulation resistance above the minimum resistance?

Contact OEM if motor insulation resistance decreases below the minimum resistance

Place new desiccant inside the vapor bag and re-seal by taping it closed

Ensure new desiccant is placed inside bag after each monthly inspection

Place the shell over the motor and secure with lag bolts

Storage — Minimum insulation resistance

Ensure sleeve bearing (oil lube) motors are drained of oil prior to shipment

Refill oil reservoirs to the indicated level with the specified lubricant

Refer to motor nameplate for lubricant specifications

Use only clean, fresh grease from clean containers

Verify grease compatibility before mixing different greases

Contact Baldor District Office for compatibility questions, if any

Select the operating temperature range and corresponding lubricant

Ensure motor is stationary and warm before relubrication
