Sleeve Bearing Oil Change
5.6.2 Regular examination — Periodical change of oil
Determine the need for oil change based on conditions
Drain the oil reservoir
Is there contamination in the oil reservoir?
Flush the reservoir with kerosene if contamination is present
Thoroughly drain the reservoir of the flushing material
Refill the reservoir to the center of oil sight glass with a rust and oxidation inhibited turbine grade oil
Refer to the outline and lubrication nameplate for the correct viscosity and record it here
Was the oil reservoir refilled correctly?
6 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearings Oil Change
Oil Re-lubrication
Change the oil at regular intervals
Determine if special conditions require more frequent oil changes
Avoid operating the motor with oxidized oil
Use only good grade, oxidation-corrosion-inhibited turbine oils
Specify the viscosity of the oil based on bearing type, size, load, speed, ambient temperature, and cooling water
Check lubrication nameplate for oil viscosity range
Determine if operation in ambient temperatures near or below freezing requires preheating the oil or special oil
Ensure oil-metering hole is clear and housing is dry before re-assembly
1 Monthly Tilt-Pad Bearing Storage Lubrication
Bearing protection — tilt-pad bearings
Remove the pipe plug from the bearing cap located above the tilt-bearing shell
Pour in approximately one cup of oil
Rotate the shaft a few revolutions
Has the oil been removed from the housing for long periods of storage?
1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Storage Maintenance
2.6 Bearing protection — anti-friction bearings
Rotate the shaft several revolutions to maintain grease distribution
Has a significant period of time elapsed since manufacture or during storage?
Re-grease the bearings if necessary
Replenish and purge with fresh grease at start up
Slip Ring Carbon Brush Maintenance
Brush Replacement
Is the carbon brush worn to 1/2 ~ 3/4 of its original size?
Replace the carbon brush if worn to 1/2 ~ 3/4 of its original size
Brush Material
Verify the brush material on the motor's nameplate
Record the recommended brush material type
Dimensions
Refer to CNS 2322 C4051 or JIS C2802 for brush, holder, and gap dimensions
Is the gap between the brush and its holder within the recommended range?
