1 Monthly Tilt-Pad Bearing Storage Lubrication
Bearing protection — tilt-pad bearings
Remove the pipe plug from the bearing cap located above the tilt-bearing shell
Pour in approximately one cup of oil
Rotate the shaft a few revolutions
Is the storage period longer than usual?
Remove the accumulated oil from the housing
1 Monthly Sleeve Bearing Storage Maintenance
2.6 Bearing protection — sleeve bearings
Ensure the following conditions are met for sleeve bearings
Rotate the motor shaft several revolutions to keep bearing journals well oiled and prevent rusting
Did the shaft come to rest in a different position than its original?
While rotating, push the shaft to both extremes of the endplay
Sleeve Bearing Re-Assembly
5.6.4 Re-assembly
Clean the interior of the bearing housing and flush with clean oil or kerosene
Wipe clean the bearing halves and shaft journal with a lint-free cloth soaked in clean oil
Inspect all parts for nicks, scratches, etc., in contact surfaces
Remove imperfections using appropriate methods (stoning, scraping, filing) and clean thoroughly
Is the floating labyrinth seal in good condition? (No cracks or chips)
Ensure bottom half seal holes are positioned at the bottom toward the inside of the bearing
Apply a bead of Curil-T around the seal half O.D.'s on both sides adjacent to the garter spring groove
Place the bottom seal half on top of the shaft and roll it into position, then install the top half and insert the garter spring
6 Monthly Sleeve Bearing Oil Change
Regular examination — Periodical change of oil
Drain the oil reservoir of self-lubricated bearings
Is the motor high speed (3600 rpm) or is there severe oil discoloration or contamination?
Flush the reservoir with kerosene if contamination is present
Thoroughly drain the reservoir of the flushing material
Refill the reservoir to the center of oil sight glass with rust and oxidation inhibited turbine grade oil
Refer to the outline and lubrication nameplate for the correct viscosity and record it here
Select the oil viscosity used
Quantity of lubrication oil
Anti-Friction Bearings Oil Change
Oil Re-lubrication
Change the oil at regular intervals
Determine the interval for oil changes based on operating conditions
Is the oil oxidized?
Select the type of oil used
Is the ambient temperature near or below freezing?
Use the lubrication oil stipulated by the lubrication nameplate, if attached
