Is the oil level above the maximum shown on the sight gauge?
Is the oil level below the minimum shown on the sight gauge?

5.5.5 Oil Re-lubrication
Change the oil at regular intervals
Determine the interval for oil changes based on operating conditions
Is the ambient temperature high, requiring more frequent oil changes?
Avoid operating the motor with oxidized oil
Use only good grade, oxidation-corrosion-inhibited turbine oils from reputable companies
Is the ambient temperature near or below freezing?
Preheat the oil or use special oil if necessary
Use the lubrication oil stipulated on the lubrication nameplate, if attached

5.8.2 Valve Inspection
Inspect the following valves for normal function
Ensure the check valve is protecting the pump from reverse flow and excessive backpressure
Verify the stop valve is operational during priming, starting, and shutdown of the pump
Is the stop valve closed before stopping the pump?
Close the stop valve before stopping the pump if operating against a high static head
Sleeve Bearing Re-Assembly
5.6.4 Re-assembly
Clean the interior of the bearing housing and flush with clean oil or kerosene
Wipe the bearing halves and shaft journal with a lint-free cloth soaked in clean oil
Inspect all parts for imperfections
Remove imperfections using appropriate methods such as stoning, scraping, or filing, followed by thorough cleaning
Check the condition of the floating labyrinth seal halves for cracks or chips
Ensure the bottom half seal's drilled holes are positioned at the bottom toward the inside of the bearing
Apply a bead of Curil-T around the seal half O.D.'s on both sides adjacent to the garter spring groove
Place the bottom seal half on top of the shaft and roll it into position

Check for reverse shock load conditions
Inspect the frequency of pump starting and stopping
Evaluate the condition of ratchet pins for deformation
Listen for unusual noises from the ratchet pins
Replace ratchet pins if necessary
Inspect and maintain the check valve in the discharge line
Inspect and maintain the stop valve in the discharge line
