5.7 Maintenance of slip ring — For Wound Rotor Motors only

Ensure motor is disconnected from power supplies

Ensure there are no accessible moving parts before maintenance operation

5.7.1 Adjustment of carbon brush

Measure the current brush pressure in psi

Enter the brush cross sectional area in square inches

Enter the brush cross sectional area in square centimeters

Is the brush pressure within the normal operation range of 2.8 to 3.6 psi?

Is the brush area below 0.08 sq. in. (0.5 cm²)?

5.4 Clean the exterior of the motor

Ensure no build-up on screens and louvers

Ensure motor is not in operation before cleaning screens and louvers

Are air filters equipped on the motor?

Clean the external fan thoroughly to prevent unbalance and vibration

Clean all tubes of the air-to-air heat exchanger using a synthetic fiber bristle tube brush

Check the current oil level on the sight gauge

Is the oil level above the maximum mark on the sight gauge?

Is the oil level below the minimum mark on the sight gauge?

Add oil if the level is below the minimum mark

Drain oil if the level is above the maximum mark

Was excessive make-up oil added?

Investigate and describe any oil leaks if excessive make-up oil was added

2.6 Bearing protection — sleeve bearings

Ensure the following conditions are met for sleeve bearings

Rotate the motor shaft several revolutions to keep bearing journals well oiled and prevent rusting

Did the motor shaft not come to rest in its original position after rotation?

Push the shaft to both extremes of the endplay while rotating

Is the carbon brush worn to 1/2 ~ 3/4 of its original size?

Replace the carbon brush if worn to specified size

Verify the brush material against the motor's nameplate

Record the recommended brush type used

Refer to CNS 2322 C4051 or JIS C2802 for brush, holder, and gap dimensions

Is the gap between the brush and its holder within the recommended range?
