Bearing maintenance — Bearing lubrication schedule

Check motor manufacturer's recommendations for lubrication intervals

Verify that no initial lubrication is required

Confirm motor was lubricated at the factory

Ensure all replacement parts are available before disassembly

Clean pump parts in solvent to remove oil, grease, and dirt

5.6 Note on the packed pump operation

Monitor continuously during operation

Ensure adequate leakage rate for cooling and lubrication

Recommended leakage rates for fluid temperatures 32°F to 190°F (0°C to 88°C)

Avoid operating with steam forming at the gland

Limit temperature rise to a maximum of 20°F (-7°C)

Provide cooling water if steam persists at higher leakage rates

Back off packing gland nuts or screws until the gland is loose before starting the pump

Hand tighten until the gland is snug against the first packing ring
