Record the bearing housing operating temperature

Is the operating temperature between 80-94°C (175-200°F)?

Is the external housing temperature below 82°C (180°F)?

Oil Specifications and Precautions

Ensure oil meets the following specifications

Is the oil a quality mineral oil with rust and oxidation inhibitors (e.g., Mobil DTE heavy/medium or equivalent)?

Clean the area around the vent plug [6521] at the top of the bearing housing

Record external housing temperature

Clean and remove vent plug [6521]

Fill constant level oiler bottle

Ensure visible leakage and concentric alignment of the gland follower

Check for leakage from the packing gland when starting the pump

Ensure the packing is not too loose to prevent air suction

Allow leakage to flow freely after the pump is primed

Gradually and evenly tighten packing gland nuts until leakage is reduced to a trickle

Ensure not to shut off all the leakage

Introduce water into tap 5 for packing lubrication at pressure 69 to 103 kPa

Adjust gland to give a flow rate of 20 to 30 drops per minute for clean fluid

Regreasable Bearing Housing Cleaning

Ensure the following contaminants are not present in the bearing housing

Drain the oil from the bearing housing

Send the drained oil for analysis

Determine and correct the cause if oil is contaminated

Ensure the work area is clean and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease

Use only clean materials and tools

Use non-flammable, non-contaminated cleaning fluids that comply with plant safety and environmental guidelines

Is the grease lubrication option specified?

Measure the bearing housing operating temperature

Is the bearing housing operating temperature within the specified range (80-94°C)?

Stop the pump and lock the motor

Remove the pipe plug from bearing locations

Enter the relubrication amount for Group 2 inboard bearing (cm³)
