Ensure safety and availability of parts

6.7.1 Preliminary to dismantling

Isolate motor and lock off electrical supply in accordance with local regulations.

Isolate suction and discharge valves.

Remove coupling guards and disconnect the coupling halves.

Drain pump casing and remove any auxiliary piping if applicable.

Lay out all parts in the order in which they are removed for convenience at re-assembly.

Protect all machined faces against metal-to-metal contact and corrosion.

6.7.3 Bearing installation and removal

Ensure proper fit is maintained during bearing installation

Was a pulling device used to remove bearings from the shaft?

Support the bearing cone with a split ring and press out the shaft using an arbor press

Select the method used for mounting a bearing on the pump shaft

Heat the bearing to a uniform temperature

Quickly mount the heated bearing on the shaft

Apply force using an arbor press if alternate method is used

Ensure the cone is not cocked when forcing a bearing onto a shaft

Measure the current impeller clearance

Is the impeller clearance within the nominal design range (0.25 to 0.50 mm)?

Check for excessive wearing ring clearance

Determine if the rings need renewal or overhaul

Record any observations or issues found during the check

5.1 Pre-commissioning procedure

Ensure the following pre-commissioning checks are completed

Fill pump bearings with recommended lubricant

Check all vent connections for complete filling of the pump

Verify the direction of rotation of the pump (Coupling spacer dismantled)

Ensure pump rotor and shaft seal are in correct axial position

Check readiness of all auxiliary systems (seal system, lubrication system) for startup

Verify all pipe work is connected correctly and absolutely tight

Ensure suction valve is open and discharge valve is closed or partially open as required

Determine the mode of lubrication of the pump set

Are the grease lubricated pumps and electric motors pre-greased?

Fill the bearing housing with correct grade of lubricant and to the correct quantity

Check the bearing frame cavities for grease and add grease as necessary before starting the pump

Remove the grease fittings or pipe plug closest to the cover after start up to allow excess grease to flow out

Monitor the bearing temperatures until they return to normal

Is there any marked increase in the temperature of the bearings after return to normal operation?
