Pump Startup Check
5.1 Pre-commissioning procedure
Ensure the following pre-commissioning checks are completed
Fill pump bearings with recommended lubricant
Check all vent connections for complete filling of the pump
Check the direction of rotation of the pump (Coupling spacer dismantled)
Ensure pump rotor and shaft seal are in correct axial position
Check readiness of all auxiliary systems (seal system, lubrication system) for start up
Ensure all pipe work is connected correctly and absolutely tight
Open suction valve and ensure discharge valve is closed or partially open as required

Connect grease gun to the nipple
Press grease into the bearing housing until the first signs of it appear in the gap between the housing and shaft, then stop greasing
Check operating temperature rise above ambient
Is the temperature rise above ambient within normal range (not exceeding 55 °C or a combined maximum of 95 °C)?
If temperature rise is abnormal, stop the pump and investigate the cause
Ensure not to mix greases containing different bases, thickeners, or additives

4.8 Final shaft alignment check
Rotate the shaft several times by hand to ensure there is no binding and all parts are free.
Recheck the coupling alignment to ensure no pipe strain exists.

Flush the housing with light mineral oil to prevent rust
Remove solid particles with a brush dipped in hot oil while spinning the bearing
Immerse bearings in hot non-toxic solvent if oxidized grease is present
