Coupling Alignment Check
4.8 Final shaft alignment check
Rotate the shaft several times by hand to ensure there is no binding and all parts are free.
Recheck the coupling alignment to ensure no pipe strain exists.

Shaft Sleeve Maintenance
Shaft Sleeve Removal
Heat the shaft sleeve to 230 °C (450 °F) and attempt removal while hot.
Was the sleeve successfully removed at 230 °C (450 °F)?
If not removed, heat the sleeve to 260 °C (500 °F) and douse with cold water to crack the sleeve.
Was the sleeve successfully cracked and removed after dousing with cold water?
If heating is not practicable, cut the sleeve off.
Mounting of Shaft Sleeve
Clean the shaft and shaft sleeve thoroughly, removing any oil or grease with a non-toxic solvent.
Allow the solvent to dry.
Gland Packing Inspection
5.8.2 Pumps fitted with packed gland
Ensure initial conditions are met
Is there visible leakage from the gland after pressurization?
Is the gland overheating?
Stop the pump and allow it to cool if overheating occurs
Check for leakage upon restarting the pump
Slacken gland nuts if necessary to achieve leakage when pumping hot liquids
Run the pump for 30 minutes with steady leakage
Tighten gland nuts by 10 degrees at a time until leakage is reduced to an acceptable level
1 Yearly Pump Bearing Lubrication Oil Change
Periodic inspection (semi-annual)
Ensure the maximum recommended time between cleaning and lubrication change is not exceeded (one year).
Determine if the severity of the environment and conditions of service dictate a shorter frequency for lubrication change.
Complete cleaning during a major overhaul
Dismantle the pump for cleaning.
Use a brush and wash out the housing with hot oil (95 to 115 °C) or non-toxic solvent.
Flush the housing with light mineral oil to prevent rust and remove solvent traces.
Remove solid particles using a brush dipped in hot oil (80 to 95 °C) while gently spinning the bearing.
Immerse bearings in hot non-toxic solvent if oxidized grease is present and difficult to remove.
Wearing Ring Maintenance
Adjusting wearing ring gap
Loosen the 4 screws (or nuts) between the bearing frame and the stuffing box head.
Break the shim joint by tightening the two adjusting bolts and remove the shims.
Adjust shim pack thickness to achieve the desired wearing gap.
Select the shim stock colour code used
Put the adjusted shim pack back in place.
Back off the two adjusting bolts until they no longer project into the gap between bearing frame and stuffing box head.
Tighten the 4 screws (or nuts) between bearing frame and stuffing box.
Re-check the ring gap and repeat steps if necessary.
