Pump Vibration Inspection
5.8.7 Normal Vibration Levels, Alarm and Trip
Record the current vibration velocity (unfiltered) in mm/s (r.m.s.)
Is the vibration velocity within normal range (5.6 mm/s r.m.s.)?
Is the vibration velocity within alarm range (7.0 mm/s r.m.s.)?
Is the vibration velocity within shutdown range (11.3 mm/s r.m.s.)?
Describe any observed changes in vibration velocity outside the preferred flow region.
5.8.6 Operating Checks
Observe pump for any abnormal noise or vibration.
Check for any change in pump noise or vibration.
Pump Startup Check
5.1 Pre-commissioning procedure
Ensure all pre-startup checks are completed
Rotate the shaft by hand to ensure all rotating parts move freely and there are no foreign objects in the pump casing
5.7 Starting the pump
Ensure the pump is primed and the sump liquid level covers the casing and adapter
Start and regulate all flush lines
Start the driver (typically, the electric motor)
Slowly open the discharge valve until the desired flow is reached
Check for issues after starting the pump
Packing Gland Adjustment
Seal and packing installation
Ensure the gland nuts [6580.8] are evenly finger tight.
Tighten the gland nuts an additional ¼ turn.
Is there a slight amount of leakage through the gland [4120.1]?
Ensure packing glands are not tightened to the point where leakage is stopped.
Maintenance schedule
Is the gland packing adjusted to give visible leakage?
Is the gland follower in concentric alignment?
Ensure there is no excessive temperature of the packing or follower.
Packing Replacement
Seal and Packing Installation
Verify packing sizes for each group
Install packing rings one at a time, ensuring each is pushed well into place
Enter the number of packing rings installed before the seal cage
Install the seal cage after the initial packing rings
Continue installing packing rings until the box is filled
Are the joints of succeeding rings staggered?
Does the taped hole in the stuffing box line up with the seal cage when packing is compressed?
Draw up the nuts on the gland evenly finger tight after the last ring of packing is in place
3 Monthly Thrust Ball Bearing Lubrication
5.2.2 Thrust Bearing
Verify bearing temperature is within the specified range
Select the lubrication group based on re-lubrication amounts
Lubricate the external duplex angular contact thrust bearing through the grease fitting [3853.2]
Verify the grease used is recommended or compatible
Ensure not to overfill the motor or pump thrust bearings with grease
