Line Shaft Bearing Replacement
6.9.1 Replacing shaft sleeve bearings
Ensure shaft bearings are only removed if they are to be replaced
Refer to Figure 6-6 for allowable bearing tolerances
Are bearing tolerances exceeded?
Replace components if tolerances are exceeded
6.9.1a Intermediate bearings [3020.1]
Remove old intermediate bearings [3020.1] (refer to section 6.7.2)
Clean and deburr bearing holder bore and lubrication port
Apply light coating of grease or oil to bearing holder bore and outside diameter of new bearing
Mechanical Seal Replacement
Seal and packing installation
Cover the shaft threads with Teflon tape
Attach the stuffing box [4110] to the upper column [1341.1]
Determine seal type
Set the impeller and mark the shaft at box face
Disassemble the pump for seal installation
Install the seal according to instructions
Lubricate the seal rotor properly
Slip the seal [4200] onto the shaft [2100]

Verify bearing temperature is within the specified range
Select the lubrication group based on re-lubrication amounts
Select the recommended grease
Lubricate the external duplex angular contact thrust bearing through the grease fitting [3853.2]
Ensure not to overfill the motor or pump thrust bearings with grease

Close control valve in discharge line
Lock out power supply to driver
Disconnect all electrical connections
Close all valves on auxiliary equipment and piping then disconnect all auxiliary piping
Disconnect discharge piping from pump
Remove coupling guard and coupling halves
Initial Thrust Ball Bearing Lubrication
Thrust Bearing Initial Lubrication
Verify factory grease packing
Select bearing group for lubrication amount
Confirm recommended grease type
Pack new bearings if not lubricated
Lubricate housing as described
Caution on Overfilling
Ensure not to overfill motor or pump thrust bearings
Verify bearing temperature does not exceed 105°C (220°F)
