2.4.2 Long term storage and packaging

Ensure all packaging components are in place

Is the assembly hermetically sealed from the atmosphere?

Is the packaging intact and undamaged?

Rotate the pump shaft approximately 10 revolutions

Have lubricants, inhibitor oils, and greases been applied if the unit is idle for extended periods?

Inspect impeller [2200] for excessive wear and etching due to corrosion.

Ensure the O-ring [4590.2] sealing surface and impeller threads are clean.

Check pump shaft [2100] for straightness.

Inspect the surface of the shaft in the bearing [3020.1-.2] areas for smoothness.

Ensure shaft surface is free of grooves, scratches, corrosion or wear.

Check ends of shaft for burrs and cleanliness of shaft threads.

Inspect the casing [1100] thoroughly, removing all burrs and foreign matter.

Check hydraulic passages for cleanliness.

Check the rotation of the motor before installing the coupling drive element

Verify the direction arrow on the support head [3160] indicates clockwise rotation

Turn off the driver power and lock it out to prevent starting during coupling assembly

Mount coupling hubs/sheaves on pump and motor shafts

Remove the sleeve if it has been installed prior to checking rotation

Remove all protective material from the coupling and shaft before installing the coupling

Verify packing sizes for each group

Install packing rings one at a time, ensuring each is pushed well into place

Enter the number of packing rings installed before the seal cage

Install the seal cage after the initial packing rings

Continue installing packing rings until the box is filled

Are the joints of succeeding rings staggered?

Does the taped hole in the stuffing box line up with the seal cage when packing is compressed?

Draw up the nuts on the gland evenly finger tight after the last ring of packing is in place

5.8.7 Normal Vibration Levels, Alarm and Trip

Record the current vibration velocity (mm/s) r.m.s.

Record the current vibration velocity (mm/s) peak

Is the vibration velocity within normal range?

Is the vibration velocity at alarm level?

Is the vibration velocity at shutdown level?

Observe pump for abnormal noise or vibration

Check for any change in pump noise or vibration
