Impeller Clearance Check
5.3 Impeller clearance
Measure the current impeller clearance
Is the impeller clearance within the nominal design range (0.25 to 0.50 mm)?
Check for excessive wearing ring clearance
Renew or overhaul the rings if necessary
Coupling Alignment Check
4.8 Final shaft alignment check
Rotate the shaft several times by hand to ensure there is no binding and all parts are free.
Recheck the coupling alignment to ensure no pipe strain exists.
6.1.2 Periodic inspection (semi-annual)
Check the coupling for correct alignment.
Inspect for worn driving elements.
4.5.4 Alignment criteria for MFC pumps
Verify maximum Total Indicator Reading (TIR) for Woods type coupling
Verify maximum Total Indicator Reading (TIR) for all metal flexible type coupling
500 Hourly Pump Bearing Lubrication
5.2.4.2 Recommended grease fill quantities
Verify grease fill quantities for Frame 8H
6.1.10.2 Grease lubrication
Connect grease gun to the nipple
Press grease into the bearing housing until it appears in the gap between the housing and shaft
Record the operating temperature of the bearing
Is the temperature rise above ambient within 55 °C (131 °F)?
Is the combined maximum temperature within 95 °C (204 °F)?
Is there a continuously rising temperature or an abrupt temperature rise?
Bearing Maintenance
6.7.3 Bearing installation and removal
Ensure proper fit is maintained during bearing installation
Use pulling device to remove bearings from the shaft
Support bearing cone with a split ring and press out the shaft using an arbor press
Pull bearing cups out of the housing
Select method for mounting a bearing on the pump shaft
Heat the bearing to a uniform temperature
Quickly mount heated bearing on the shaft
Apply force using an arbor press if alternate method is used
Shaft Inspection
6.1.7 Maintenance of shaft and shaft sleeve
Examine the shaft condition at the following locations
Is there any rusting or pitting on the shaft?
Are the anti-friction bearings properly fitted to the pump shaft?
Is there any distortion in the shaft keyways?
Is the impeller loose on the shaft?
Is the shaft bent or distorted?
Is the wear on the shaft slight enough for repair by metal spraying or plating?
Measure the shaft runout after repair (maximum 0.051 mm T.I.R.)
