Bearing Housing Cleaning
5.2.2.1 Regreasable
Check for contaminants in the bearing housing
Drain the oil from the bearing housing
Send oil for analysis
Was the oil contaminated?
If contaminated, describe the cause and corrective actions taken
Ensure the work area is clean and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease etc.
Use only clean materials
Use non-flammable, non-contaminated cleaning fluids
6 Monthly Bearing Re-Lubrication
Pre-Lubrication Checks
Is the bearing housing operating temperature under 71°C (160°F)?
Is the external housing temperature below 94°C (200°F)?
Safety Precautions
Stop the pump and lock the motor
Remove the coupling guard
Lubrication Process
Remove the pipe plug from both the inboard and outboard bearing location
Apply the correct amount of grease
Pump Overhaul Inspection
6.8 Examination of parts
Ensure all parts are thoroughly cleaned and inspected
Use new bearings, O-rings, gaskets, and lip seals
Replace any parts showing wear or corrosion with new genuine Flowserve parts
Measure shaft runout and ensure it is 0.025 mm (0.001 in.) FIM or less
Check radial deflection — static and ensure movement is not more than 0.05 mm (0.002 in.)
Verify axial shaft movement (endplay) on a Durco pump is 0.03 mm (0.001 in.) or less
Ensure seal chamber face squareness run-out is less than 0.08 mm (0.003 in.)
Check seal chamber register concentricity is less than 0.13 mm (0.005 in.)
3 Monthly Bearing Re-Lubrication
Pre-Lubrication Safety Measures
Stop the pump and lock the motor
Remove the coupling guard
Temperature Verification
Measure the external housing temperature
Is the external housing temperature within the acceptable range?
Bearing Re-Lubrication
Remove the pipe plug from bearing locations
Enter the amount of grease for Group 2 inboard bearing (cm³)
Bearing Inspection
6.1 Maintenance schedule
Confirm satisfactory operation by checking the following
Record the surface temperature at the bearings
Is the surface temperature within the acceptable range? (Oil bath: 82°C, Oil mist: 82°C, Grease: 94°C)
Is the bearing temperature below the maximum exposure limit of 105°C?
Ensure overload prevention measures are in place
Perform routine vibration monitoring
Check and remove dirt from areas around close clearances, bearing housings, and motors in dirty or dusty environments
