6.1 Precautions — Maintenance guidelines

Perform these tasks during maintenance and before reassembly

Ensure existing index markings are in line during reassembly

Insulation-test the reassembled drive unit

Test-run the reassembled pump before normal operation

Perform a ground (earth) continuity test after service

Estimate zinc anode replacement intervals

Check the mass and surface area of the zinc anodes

Verify the water temperature is 20°C (68°F)

Determine if shorter inspection intervals are needed based on water temperature and chemical composition

Check for the presence of other metals in the vicinity of the pump

Calculate actual replacement interval based on measured anode consumption rate and selected remaining fraction (0.25–0.50)

Recommend intervals for periodical inspection and overhaul

Was the inspection performed within the first year of operation?

Adjust the impeller if necessary

Ensure the oil is medical white oil of paraffin type that fulfills FDA 172.878 (a) and viscosity close to VG32

Allow the chamber to de-pressurize before removal of the plug

Place the pump in a horizontal position and unscrew the oil plug

Does the pump have a hole with the markings 'oil out'?

Place a container under the pump and turn the pump
