Coupling Alignment Check
6.1 Maintenance schedule / 4.8 Final shaft alignment check
Check coupling alignment and re-align if necessary.
Operate the pump for at least an hour or until it reaches final operating temperature.
Shut the pump down and recheck alignment while the pump is hot.
Did piping thermal expansion change the alignment?
Realign pump as necessary.
Enter the parallel misalignment measurement (mm).
Enter the angular misalignment measurement (mm/mm).
Is the parallel misalignment within 0.05 mm (0.002 in.)?
Mechanical Seal Leakage Inspection
6.1 Maintenance schedule
Check for any leaks
Check the correct functioning of the shaft seal
Adjust gland packing for visible leakage and concentric alignment
Monitor auxiliary systems for correct function
6 Monthly Bearing Re-Lubrication
Pre-Lubrication Safety Measures
Stop the pump and lock the motor
Remove the coupling guard
Lubrication Process
Is the bearing housing operating temperature under 71°C (160°F)?
Is the external housing temperature below 94°C (200°F)?
Remove the pipe plug from the following bearing locations
Enter the amount of grease for Group 2 inboard bearing (cm³)
Enter the amount of grease for Group 2 outboard bearing (cm³)
Bearing Inspection
Maintenance schedule
Check vibration at the bearings
Check noise level at the bearings
Measure surface temperature at the bearings
Is the surface temperature within the acceptable range?
Check for excessive surface temperatures at bearings
Monitor temperature or vibration
Maximum external bearing housing temperatures
Ensure bearing temperature does not exceed 105°C (220°F)
3 Monthly Pump Shaft Rotation
2.4 Storage
Store the pump in a clean, dry location away from vibration.
Leave flange covers in place to keep dirt and other foreign material out of pump casing.
Turn the pump shaft at regular intervals to prevent brinelling of the bearings and the seal faces, if fitted, from sticking.
Is the pump stored for more than 6 months?
Ensure protection of the pump after unpacking.
Has oil been added to the bearing housing?
Are inhibitor oils and greases used if units are idle for extended periods after addition of lubricants?
Rotate the pump shaft approximately 10 revolutions every three months.
