Crankcase Inspection
Crankshaft Removal
Set crankcase upside down in a suitable location.
Remove main bearing cap crossbolts from sides of crankcase. Ensure bearing caps are marked and matched to crankcase location.
Measure the spread of the crankcase sides using a dial indicator.
Install crankcase spreader tool P/N 472002 between bearing caps #1 and #2. Adjust tool and spread crankcase. Remove bearing caps.
Move spreader tool between caps #3 and #4. Remove and repeat sequence for rest of main bearing caps.
Check center main bearing cap for thrust washer on either side of bearing cap.
Ensure left side #5 and #6 crossbolts have special washers and O-rings. Reinstall in original locations.
Attach suitable lifting device around connecting rod journals of crankshaft and lift crankshaft from crankcase.
6 Monthly Gas Engine Maintenance
Cylinder Compression Check
Record cylinder compression readings for all cylinders
Is the cylinder compression within the acceptable range?
Quick Start Governor Oil Filter Change
Drain the old oil from the governor
Replace the oil filter with a new one
Refill the governor with new oil
Check for leaks after replacing the oil filter
Post Maintenance Checks
1 Yearly Jacket Water and Auxiliary Cooling Water Circuits Cleaning and Flushing
Preparation
Wear protective clothing when draining the cooling systems on a hot engine.
Replace one of the 3/4 inch NPT countersunk headless pipe plugs with a customer supplied ball valve.
Engine Operation
Start engine and run for 10 minutes.
Shut down engine and open air bleed petcocks at highest point in jacket water and auxiliary water circuit.
Draining Coolant
Verify that customer supplied ball valve is closed.
Remove pipe plug and attach drain line.
