Check air/fuel ratio and crankcase breather system adjustment

Filter Restriction Indicator Check

Check filter restriction indicator before engine shutdown

Check filter restriction indicator after engine shutdown

Does the filter restriction indicator show 'red'?

Service air cleaner if indicator shows 'red'

Check if the engine has a baffle box attached to the side of the crankcase.

Identify the correct attachment point for the manometer

Remove pipe plug (1/4 in. NPT) and install tube connector.

Install one end of water manometer onto tube connector and vent opposite end to atmosphere.

Measure crankcase pressure while engine is operating at rated speed and load.

Spark Plug Cleaning and Inspection

Regap each spark plug to the specified gap

Examine each spark plug for defects

Examine spark plug firing end for abnormal conditions

Refer to Table 5.10-1 and Table 5.10-3 for specifications and spark plug part numbers

Replace spark plug gaskets if spark plug is reinstalled

Open each air bleed petcock prior to engine startup.

Did you hear a hissing sound indicating the escape of trapped air?

Close petcock when hissing stops and water begins to flow out in a solid steady stream.

Start engine and reopen each petcock.

Close petcock when hissing stops and water begins to flow out in a solid steady stream.

Has the temperature of the jacket water circuit stabilized as indicated by the panel mounted temperature gauge?

Clean connecting rod mating surfaces between rod and cap with non-caustic solution.

Clean oil hole located at top of rod and all bolts thoroughly.

Bolt Inspection and Replacement

Inspect all connecting rod bolts for nicks or damage.

Do bolts screw into rod face by hand when lubricated with SAE 30 weight oil?

Replace bolts if damaged or if they do not screw in freely.

Connecting Rod Cap Installation

Install connecting rod cap and secure with connecting rod bolts and washers.
