Pump Maintenance
6.4 Disassembly
Safety Precautions
6.4.3 Drain the pump
Allow all system and pump components to cool before handling
If the pumped fluid is non-conductive, drain and flush the pump with a conductive fluid under safe conditions
6.4.4 Prepare for disassembly
Position the pump for disassembly
6.4.6 Disassemble the discharge end ball bearing for the radial suction configuration
Disassemble steps
Coupling Alignment Check
4.3.1 Alignment checks
Perform alignment checks under these circumstances
Perform periodic alignment checks following plant operating procedures
Enter the Total Indicated Reading (T.I.R.) at operating temperature
Enter the tolerance of the indicator
4.3.3 Alignment measurement guidelines
Rotate the pump coupling half and the driver coupling half together so that the indicator rods have contact with the same points on the driver coupling half
Move or shim only the driver to make adjustments
Are the hold-down bolts for the driver tight when taking indicator measurements?
Pump Startup Check
5.1 Preparation for startup
Flush and clean the system thoroughly to remove dirt or debris in the pipe system.
Is the pumped fluid temperature expected to exceed 93°C | 200°F?
Warm up the pump prior to operation if fluid temperature exceeds 93°C | 200°F.
Enter the casing temperature after circulating fluid through the pump.
Soak for 2 hours at process fluid temperature.
Bring variable-speed drivers to the rated speed quickly.
Ensure set screws in the seal locking ring are tightened and centering clips removed.
Verify the following before starting the pump
After Maintenance Bearing Lubrication
6.2.5 Lubricate the bearings after a shutdown period
Flush out the bearings and bearing frame with a light oil to remove contaminants
Flush the bearing housing with the proper lubricating oil to ensure oil quality after cleaning
Initial Pump Alignment Check
Make the final alignment of the pump and driver
Run the unit under actual operating conditions to reach operating temperature
Shut down the pump and the driver
Remove the coupling guard
Check the alignment while the unit is still hot
Reinstall the coupling guard
Restart the pump and driver
Is the Total Indicated Reading (T.I.R.) at 0.05 mm | 0.002 in. or less at operating temperature?
