6.4.1 Disassembly precautions
Ensure safety precautions are followed
6.4.2 Disassemble the head and column
Remove necessary components based on drive type
Uncouple the driver or gear box from the pump shaft and mounting flanges
Remove all hold-down bolts and integral piping
Remove the coupling and mechanical seal
Continue disassembly down to the bowls

Set up the lubrication system
Observe instructions on the submittal document
Fill the oil reservoir with oil
Check the lubricator feed and ensure the oil reservoir is flowing freely
Set the proper drops per minute on the regulator for shaft 0.75 to 1.00 in. (19 to 25 mm)
Set the proper drops per minute on the regulator for shaft 1.19 to 1.94 in. (30 to 50 mm)
Set the proper drops per minute on the regulator for shaft 2.19 in. and larger (55 mm and larger)
Is synthetic turbine oil ISO VG 32 used for general applications?
Consult ITT for more specific data if needed
Packing Adjustment
6.2 Adjust and replace the packing
Check conditions for packing adjustment
Is the leakage rate less than one drop per second after adjustment?
Is the environment Ex-classified?
6.2.1 Adjust the packing when leaking is excessive
Tighten the gland nuts one-quarter turn with the pump in operation
Has the leakage decreased to two drops per second?
Shut down the pump if leakage continues to exceed two drops per second
Allow the packing to compress until the gland is about to contact the upper face of the stuffing box
