Shaft Inspection
Inspection & Wear Limits — Shafts
Inspect shafts for defects
Are there any cracks or chips on the shaft surface?
Is the shaft deeply scored?
Check shaft OD and wear limits
Has the shaft reached its replacement limit?
Describe any issues found during inspection
Pressure Relief Valve Check
Special Information — Pressure Relief Valves
Viking pumps are positive displacement pumps and must be provided with some sort of pressure protection.
This may be an inline pressure relief valve, a torque limiting device or a rupture disk.
NOTE: Pump can be operated in reverse direction for short duration at low differential pressure to clean/flush out lines.
If pump rotation is reversed during operation, pressure protection must be provided on both sides of pump.
Pressure relief valves cannot be used to control pump flow or regulate discharge pressure.
DO NOT operate the pump without a pressure relief valve in the discharge piping.
Be sure the valve is installed and set correctly.
Pressure Relief Valve Inspection
Pump Maintenance
Safety Precautions
Relieve pressure from the piping system
Clean and chemically neutralize hazardous materials
Ensure safety from magnetic fields
Vent pressure from the pump chamber
Lock out driving means to prevent operation
Identify the liquid handled by the pump and necessary precautions
E25 & E75 Disassembly
Close all suction and discharge valves
Bearing Inspection
INSPECTION & WEAR LIMITS — BEARINGS
Inspect bearing bores and end surfaces for wear and scoring
If wear or scoring is present on the end surface of the bearing, can it be flipped to expose the undamaged face to the gear side?
Check if the bearing should be replaced based on wear and scoring on both ends or bore wear reaching replacement limit
Record the bore wear measurement
Record the end wear measurement
Pump Startup Check
SAFETY INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS
Ensure all parts of the system are clean and free from debris
Verify all valves in the suction and discharge pipelines are fully opened
Check that all piping connecting to the pump is fully supported and correctly aligned
Confirm pump rotation is correct for the desired direction of flow
Ensure the pump is not installed in a system where it will run dry
Verify installation of pressure gauges/sensors next to the pump suction and discharge connections
SPECIAL INFORMATION — ROTATION
Determine shaft rotation to identify suction and discharge ports
