Improper installation, operation or maintenance of pump may cause serious injury or death, and/or result in damage to pump and/or other equipment.

Viking’s warranty does not cover failure due to improper installation, operation or maintenance.

Apply external lubrication slowly with a hand gun to all lubrication fittings every 500 hours of operation with multi-purpose grease, NLGI # 2.

Contact your Viking Pump® representative with specific lubrication questions.

Check Engineering Service Bulletin ESB-515 in the Appendix for standard grease thickener types used by Viking to ensure compatibility.

For applications involving very high or low temperatures, ensure other types of lubrication are used.

Ensure pressure in the chamber is completely vented through appropriate openings or connections.

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means (motor, turbine, engine, etc.).

Identify the liquid the pump has been handling and understand the necessary safety precautions.

Obtain and review the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the liquid.

Carefully remove valve cap and loosen locknut on adjusting screw.

Install a pressure gauge in the discharge line.

Adjust the pressure setting by turning the adjusting screw.

Ensure pressure in the chamber is completely vented

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means

Identify the liquid the pump has been handling

Obtain and understand the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the liquid

Loosen the two set screws in the outer face of the bearing housing

Rotate the bearing housing clockwise until it cannot be turned anymore

Mark the outside diameter of the bearing housing and the pump bracket

Acknowledge understanding of safety information

Perform initial packing adjustment carefully

Is the packing gland adjusted correctly?

Inspect for need of packing gland adjustment or replacement

Contact Viking Pump® representative for Engineering Service Bulletin ESB-521 if needed

Select the pump series for relubrication

Add grease to the bracket grease fitting until it comes out of the relief fitting on the opposite side of the bracket
