Anti-Friction Bearing Maintenance
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing Removal/Replacement
Ensure equipment connected to the motor shaft cannot cause shaft rotation
Disconnect all electrical power from the motor windings and accessory devices
Replace bearing when worn, oversize, or when TRG/bearing temperature monitoring indicates excessive wear
Remove the end shield
Remove the bearing using a conventional bearing puller
Protect the shaft center using a spacer block of bass or soft material
Clean and inspect all parts
Remove all old grease
1 Monthly Motor Winding Insulation Resistance Testing
Section 3 – Checking Insulation Resistance
Check conditions for insulation resistance testing
Measure the insulation resistance of the stator winding
Enter the rating machine potential (KV) in kilo volts
Calculate and enter the minimum insulation resistance (RM)
Is the insulation resistance significantly changed from previous readings?
Is the insulation resistance less than the calculated RM?
Drying Out Procedure
Bake in an oven at a temperature not to exceed 90°C
6 Monthly Motor Maintenance
Section 3 – Semi-Annual Maintenance − 6 months
Perform all quarterly inspections (see 3 Monthly Motor Periodic Inspection task)
Inspect and clean rotor ends, windings and fan blades (Open Motors only)
Check electrical connections for tightness and absence of corrosion
Section 3 – Winding Maintenance
WARNING — Solvents can be toxic and/or flammable — follow manufacturer's safety procedures and directions — failure to observe this precaution could result in bodily injury
CAUTION — Do not use solvents containing trichloroethane to clean interior or exterior of motor — damage may occur to paint and insulation systems
Disconnect and lockout the power source
Ensure no power is applied to the motor
6 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing (Grease Lubricated)
Verify motor conditions
Ensure standard conditions are met (8 hrs/day, normal or light loading, clean ambient air at 40°C max)
Check motor nameplate for relubrication intervals and volumes
Refer to motor nameplate for recommended lubricant
Select alternate lubricants if necessary
Ensure use of clean, fresh grease from clean containers
Verify grease compatibility if mixing is necessary
Ensure grease is free of dirt to avoid damage to motor bearings
1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Maintenance
Section 1 – Storage (less than 6 months)
Ensure grease lubricated bearings are not lubricated during storage
Verify Duty Master anti-friction bearing motors are shipped with the proper amount of grease in each bearing
Record the number of days since last shaft rotation
Rotate the shaft by hand
Replace protective packing and shaft shipping brace after rotating the shaft
Inspect the motor periodically and check insulation resistance
Is the storage location cold, damp, or humid?
Apply power to the motor's space heater if installed
