1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Maintenance
Section 1 – Storage (less than 6 months)
Ensure grease lubricated bearings are not lubricated during storage
Verify Duty Master anti-friction bearing motors are shipped with the proper amount of grease in each bearing
Remove packing to expose the shaft and remove the shaft shipping brace every 30 days
Rotate the shaft by hand 10 to 15 revolutions to distribute grease or oil
Replace protective packing and shaft shipping brace after rotating the shaft
Inspect the motor periodically and check insulation resistance monthly
Is the storage location cold, damp, or humid?
Is the motor stored and directly exposed to weather conditions?
6 Monthly Motor Maintenance
Section 3 – Semi-Annual Maintenance − 6 months
Perform all quarterly inspections (see 3 Monthly Motor Periodic Inspection task)
Inspect and clean rotor ends, windings and fan blades (Open Motors only)
Check electrical connections for tightness and absence of corrosion
Section 3 – Winding Maintenance
WARNING — Solvents can be toxic and/or flammable — follow manufacturer's safety procedures and directions — failure to observe this precaution could result in bodily injury
CAUTION — Do not use solvents containing trichloroethane to clean interior or exterior of motor — damage may occur to paint and insulation systems
Disconnect and lockout the power source
Ensure no power is applied to the motor
4400 Hourly / 6 Monthly Sleeve Bearing Oil Change
Section 3 – Sleeve Bearings (Oil Lubricated)
Verify oil change conditions
Select lubricating oil based on conditions
Avoid using automotive oils or unapproved additives
Procedure for changing oil
De-energize the motor by opening the manual disconnect switches
Remove drain plug and drain oil
Is the oil contaminated?
Flush out the housing by filling with fresh oil and drain again if oil is contaminated
3 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing (Grease Lubricated) – Severe Conditions
Cautions
Do not over-lubricate motor as this may cause premature bearing failure
Over-lubricating can cause excessive bearing temperatures, premature lubrication breakdown and bearing failure
To avoid damage to motor bearings, grease must be kept free of dirt
Lubrication procedure
Relubrication with the shaft stationary and a warm motor is recommended
If lubrication must be done with motor running, stay clear of rotating parts and electrical circuits
Locate the grease inlet, clean the area and replace the pipe plug with a grease fitting, if the motor is not equipped with grease fittings
500 Hourly / 3 Monthly Motor Inspection
Section 3 – Periodic Inspection
Listen for any abnormal noises and check cause immediately
Check for any vibration and check cause immediately if excessive vibration is found
Check voltage and frequency variations
Check power supply total harmonic distortion to avoid overheating
Perform periodic checks of phase, voltage, frequency, and power consumption of an operating motor
Check that air filters are in place and clean
Check all air passages and ensure that they are not blocked or clogged
Check for proper lubrication and oil level in sleeve bearing motors
