INSPECTION & WEAR LIMITS — BEARINGS

Inspect bearing bores and end surfaces for wear and scoring

Is there wear or scoring on the end surface of the bearing?

Can the bearing be flipped to expose the undamaged face to the gear side?

Do both ends show wear and/or scoring?

Select the bearing type for inspection

Has the bore wear reached the replacement limit?

Inspection & Wear Limits — Gears

Visually inspect gear teeth for wear and damage

Measure gear length and outside diameter for dimensional change

Are any gears at their replacement limits or showing signs of damage?

Describe any observed gear tooth mesh and backlash issues

Service & Replacement Limits Check

Is backlash within acceptable limits for all gears?

Relieve pressure from the piping system

Clean and chemically neutralize hazardous materials

Ensure magnetic fields do not affect sensitive items

Vent pressure from the pump liquid chamber

Lock out driving means to prevent operation

Identify the liquid handled by the pump and necessary precautions

Close all suction and discharge valves

SPECIAL INFORMATION — PRESSURE RELIEF VALVES

Check that pressure protection is provided

Verify the pump can be operated in reverse direction for cleaning

Ensure pressure protection is on both sides if pump rotation is reversed

Confirm pressure relief valve is not used to control flow or regulate pressure

Check that the pressure relief valve is installed and set correctly

Inspection & Wear Limits — Shafts

Are there any cracks or chips on the shaft surface?

Does the shaft exceed the serviceable limit of 0.001 smooth wear?

Does the shaft exceed the replacement limit of 0.001 deep or rough scoring?
