Initial 90 Day / 250 Hours Drive Unit Maintenance
Warning: Use extreme care whenever the truck is jacked up. Keep hands and feet clear from vehicle while jacking the truck.
Break mounting bolts free and reapply thread-locking compound (P/N 990-463). Re-torque mounting cap screws to 30 ft. lb. (41 Nm).
Change fluid.
Lower the forks. Turn the truck OFF. Disconnect the battery connector. Remove the tractor cover.
Jack the truck and block the frame.
Remove the drive unit fill plug (Figure 7-21) and drain plug (Figure 7-22). Permit the gear oil to drain.
Remove the traction motor.
Remove the twelve socket head cap screws that secure the drive unit (thru the steering bearing) to the tractor frame.
Secure hoisting straps to the drive unit. Remove the drive unit using a hoist with at least one-ton capacity.
DC Electric Motors Inspection
Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!
Commutator has surface condition and high mica
Commutator is smooth and clean
No carbon dust collected in the grooves between the segments
Commutation is indicated by a dark brown polished commutator and an evenly polished brush wearing surface
No signs of rough, pitted, burning or heavy arcing between the commutator bars
If any of the checks fail, remove the motor for service
Sign off on the DC Electric Motors Inspection
