Drive Unit
Break free, reapply thread-locking compound (P/N 990-544), and re-torque mounting bolts to 170 ft. lb. (230 Nm)
Change fluid
Hydraulic Reservoir and Manifold
Change fluid and filter(s)
Hydraulic Filter
AC Lift: Remove the top cover
If you have not drained the reservoir, elevate the carriage to lower the hydraulic fluid level and minimize hydraulic fluid leakage
Turn the key switch OFF and disconnect the battery connector
Back Tilt Inspection
NOTE: Select a floor location that is flat and level as possible.
NOTE: A new drive tire, caster tire, and load wheels should be installed and the caster adjusted prior to inspection.
Secure a plumb-bob line to one of the forks.
Raise the forks 12 in. (30.5 cm) off the floor and mark the position (on the floor) at the suspended plumb bob point.
Raise the forks to full elevation (without making contact with the mechanical stops) and mark the new position on the floor at the suspended plumb-bob point.
Measure the distance between the two points in the truck’s fore and aft direction. This is the truck’s back tilt.
Measure the distance between the two points in the side to side direction. This is the truck’s lateral lean.
NOTE: Maximum lean for a particular truck can be determined by the following formula: Maximum Lean (in.) = 0.005 x EH (in.)
Compare the measured lateral lean to the calculated dimension to determine if it is within the acceptable limit.
Steering and Controls Maintenance
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Turn the key switch OFF and disconnect the battery connector.
Remove the top cover and steering cover.
Remove the snubber adjustment nut and swing the halves of the snubber out of the way.
Disconnect encoder harness connectors JPE1 and JPE2. Cut cable ties as needed.
Remove three bolts holding the steer tiller encoder to the bracket.
Route wiring harness of new encoder through the hole in the bracket. Install encoder to bracket with three bolts.
Route encoder harness and install cable ties where previously removed. Connect harness connectors JPE1 and JPE2.
Assemble the snubber and tighten the jam nut on the eyebolt so that the force required to turn the steering wheel is 5 to 7 in. lb. (0.5 to 0.8 Nm).
Fork Maintenance
Warning: This maintenance check requires trained personnel with PPE!
Surface Inspection: Any signs of damage?
Straightness of Blade and Shank: Is the deviation within the allowable limit?
Fork Angle: Is the deviation within the allowable limit?
Fork Tip Height: Is the deviation within the allowable limit?
Positioning Locks: Are they working correctly?
Wear: Is the wear within the allowable limit?
Fork Hooks: Are they within the allowable limit?
Markings: Are they legible?
