Adjustment of Packing Seals Without External Flushing

Loosen stuffing box nuts to allow strong drip

Measure the initial leak rate (drops per minute)

Tighten stuffing box nuts progressively to reduce leak to controlled drip

Measure stabilized leak rate (drops per minute)

Is the leak rate within acceptable range (60-200 drops per minute)?

Measure temperature of the leaking liquid

Is the temperature at least 10°C below boiling point and below 90°C?

Ensure the engine is off and cooled down

Gather necessary tools and materials for oil change

Remove vent plug of the bearing frame

Drain the old oil from the bearing frame

Dispose of the exhausted oil following current regulations and environmental protection measures

!DANGER: Danger due to fluids in pressure. Carry out sealing tests provided with apposite protective devices.

Ensure all protective devices are in place

Verify that the installation is complete

Record the static pressure reading

Is the static pressure within the acceptable range?

Record the vacuum pressure reading

Is the vacuum pressure within the acceptable range?

Ensure the engine is off and cooled down

Gather necessary tools and materials (oil, oil-cruet, etc.)

Remove vent plug of the bearing frame

Dispose of the exhausted oil following current regulations

Pour oil into the bearing frame through the hole of plug till oil is visible in the oil-filler elbow

Wear appropriate protective devices

Clean piping and any reservoirs to remove loose materials and foreign particles
