Refrigerant Leak Test
Preparation
Ensure the instrument is switched off before replacing the sensing tip.
Remove the sensing tip by unscrewing it in a counter-clockwise direction.
Fit a new tip and a new felt pad, screwing them in a clockwise direction onto the flexible probe.
Check that there is no grease or dirt in the connecting hole between the probe and the tip.
Initial Setup
Start the engine.
Set the ventilation fan to maximum speed.
Turn knob (2, fig. 10) to switch on the air conditioner.
Taper-Roller Bearing Adjustment
Bearing Mounting
Mount the external track of the bearing with the calculated adjuster shim (S) and the bevel pinion complete with its parts.
Bearing Adjustment
Tighten the bearing adjustment nut while turning the pinion shaft until rolling torque of 0.73--1.47 Nm (1.1063--1.4751 ft lb) is obtained.
Torque Measurement
Mesh the range selecting sleeve with the slow range gear.
Measure the rolling torque with a torque meter and a cord wound around the slow range gear of the pinion. Ensure the torque corresponds to a force of 8.63 -- 17.2 N (1.9409 -- 3.8598 lb).
Final Adjustment
Bend the securing thrust washer onto the adjuster nut to prevent it from unscrewing and decreasing the bearing pre-load.
Receiver - Drier Replacement
Safety Instructions
Adhere to the safety instructions on page 2 when recovering the refrigerant from the system.
Refrigerant Recovery
Recover the refrigerant from the system using station 294048 as described on page 22.
Preparation
Detach the exhaust pipe and raise the hood.
Disconnect the negative battery lead.
Disconnection
Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the receiver--drier.
Starter Motor Earth Check
Pre-test Checks
Check the battery is fully charged
Inspect for broken or frayed wires in the starting system
Ensure there are no loose connections
Verify the engine is not seized
Voltmeter Connection
Connect the positive voltmeter point to the starter motor casing
Connect the negative voltmeter point to the engine block
Testing and Results
Battery Maintenance
WARNING: Batteries contain sulphuric acid and generate a highly explosive hydrogen and oxygen mix during charging.
Safety Precautions
Do not use devices producing flames or sparks to inspect the electrolyte level.
Do not remove battery caps without protecting your hands and your eyes.
Electrolyte Level Maintenance
Ensure the electrolyte level is 17 mm (0.6993 in.) over the plates.
Is the electrolyte level maintained at 17 mm (0.6993 in.) over the plates?
Water Usage
Use only the following types of water
