Chiller Tube Leak Testing

Check for potential leak scenarios
Is there a hissing sound indicating gas leakage?
Wash off both tube heads and the ends of all tubes with water
Blow out the tubes with nitrogen or dry air
Pressurize the dry system with nitrogen
Record the time tubes have been corked
Test each tube for leaks after corking period
Mark any leaking tubes for later identification

7.4.4 Refrigerant Charging
Remove refrigerant charge when opening any part of the refrigerant system for repairs
Isolate refrigerant in condenser or evaporator/compressor if optional valves are equipped
Add only refrigerant vapour to the system until pressure is above freezing point
Ensure system pressure is above 58.9 kPa for R134a to prevent freezing
Prevent moisture laden air from entering the system during charging
Make up a suitable charging connection from new copper tubing
Ensure charging connection is short but flexible enough for changing drums
Purge charging connection each time a new container of refrigerant is connected
3 Monthly Chliller Maintenance

Perform chemical analysis of oil
Leak test the unit
Repair any leaks found immediately

Leak test the system with a R134a compatible leak detector
Ensure all joints are tight

Tighten flare nuts or flange bolts to stop leaks

Change and inspect compressor oil filter element.

Inspect for internal wearing of compressor parts due to improper lubrication.

Change the oil filter element if the unit is shutting down on High Oil Temperature or Low Oil Pressure.
Examine the oil filter element for the presence of aluminum particles.
Are aluminum particles found in the oil filter?
If aluminum particles are found, describe the findings and notify the nearest York office.

Observe and record the refrigerant level after initial charging
Ensure the refrigerant level is visible in the sight glass
Check and trim the refrigerant charge when the system is shut down
Verify that the pressure and temperature have equalised between the condenser and evaporator
Confirm that 4 hours or more have passed since the compressor and water pumps were stopped
