7.1.6 Annually (more often if necessary)

Drain and replace the oil in the compressor oil sump

Verify the nominal oil charge for the compressor is 75.7 litres of York 'K' oil

Ensure only York 'K' refrigeration oil is used in the centrifugal compressor

Check that the oil is kept tightly capped until used to prevent moisture absorption

Shut down the unit before starting the oil charging procedure

Immerse the suction connection of the oil charging pump in a clean container of new oil

Remove refrigerant charge when opening any part of the refrigerant system for repairs.

Isolate refrigerant if chiller is equipped with optional valves

Add only refrigerant vapour to the system until pressure is above freezing point of evaporator liquid.

Ensure system pressure is above 58.9 kPa for R134a to prevent freezing.

Prevent moisture laden air from entering the system during charging.

Make up a suitable charging connection from new copper tubing.

Ensure charging connection is purged each time a new container of refrigerant is connected.

Change containers quickly to minimise refrigerant loss.

7.1.6 Annually (more often if necessary)

Inspect and service electrical components as necessary.

Inspect all electrical controls for obvious malfunctions.

Ensure factory settings of controls (operation and safety) are unchanged.

Perform chemical analysis of system.

Check the refrigerant charge (See Refrigerant Charge Checking)

7.4.1 Checking The Refrigerant Charge

Record the refrigerant level after initial charging

Is the refrigerant level visible in the sight glass?

Ensure the system is shut down before checking and trimming the refrigerant charge

Record the time after the compressor and water pumps are stopped

Check for potential leak indicators

Is there a hissing sound indicating gas leakage?

Wash off both tube heads and the ends of all tubes with water

Blow out the tubes with nitrogen or dry air

Pressurize the dry system with nitrogen

Record the duration for which tubes are corked

Test each tube for leaks after corking period

Mark any leaking tubes for later identification
