Is the pump to be stored or not used for six months or more?

Apply a light coat of light oil to all internal pump parts

Apply grease to the pump shaft extension

Tighten all pump assembly bolts before putting the pump in service after storage

Safety Information & Instructions

Ensure system cleanliness and valve positions

Verify piping support and alignment

Is the pump rotation correct for the desired direction of flow?

Is the pump installed with a supply of pumped media?

Check for pressure gauges/sensors next to the pump suction and discharge connections

Determine shaft rotation direction

Identify suction and discharge ports based on rotation

Special Information — Pressure Relief Valves

Viking pumps are positive displacement pumps and must be provided with some sort of pressure protection.

This may be an inline pressure relief valve, a torque limiting device or a rupture disk.

NOTE: Pump can be operated in reverse direction for short duration at low differential pressure to clean/flush out lines.

If pump rotation is reversed during operation, pressure protection must be provided on both sides of pump.

Pressure relief valves cannot be used to control pump flow or regulate discharge pressure.

DO NOT operate the pump without a pressure relief valve in the discharge piping.

Be sure the valve is installed and set correctly.

Verify pressure protection is in place

Inspection & Wear Limits — Housing Liner

Visually inspect the housing liner for the following issues

Record any findings from the visual inspection

Is the wear or step on E02 within serviceable limits?

Measure wear or step on E05 & E12

Is the wear or step on E05 & E12 within serviceable limits?

Is the wear or step on E25 within serviceable limits?

Inspection & Wear Limits — Gears

Visually inspect gear teeth for wear and damage

Measure gear length and outside diameter for dimensional change

Are any gears showing signs of reaching replacement limits or physical damage?

Describe any observed gear tooth mesh and backlash issues

Record wear measurements and compare with serviceable and replacement limits
