Equipment Check
WARNING
Disconnect and secure to the OFF position all electrical power to the fan prior to inspection or servicing.
Pre-Start Checks
Confirm that building supply voltage matches the voltage for which the unit is wired.
Check all piping and wiring penetrations made by contractors for water tightness.
Rotate the fan wheel manually to ensure it is free to operate and remove any dirt or debris.
Check the fan bearing setscrews for tightness.
Check alignment of sheaves and V-belts.
Inspect all fasteners to ensure none have loosened during shipment.
1 Monthly Fan Inspection
Pre-Inspection Notes
Ensure fans are in storage and ready for inspection.
Prepare inspection record sheet.
Inspection Process
Check for moisture or dirt accumulations on parts
Was the source of moisture or dirt located and eliminated?
Rotate the wheel by hand
Is there any paint deterioration?
Does the fan have special coatings?
Equipment Inspection
Pre-assembly Inspection
Check all fasteners and set screws for tightness
Rotate the fan wheel by hand to ensure no parts are rubbing
Access the wheel through the bolted panel on the side of the fan housing
Ensure proper wheel settings for radial gap and alignment
Refer to Radial Gap, Overlap and Wheel Alignment section on page 11 for guidance
Bearing Replacement
Preliminary Safety Measures
Ensure power source is locked out before starting work.
Verify that belts and pulleys have been loosened and removed.
Confirm extended lubrication lines are disconnected at the bearing.
Bearing Removal
Read and follow all instructions carefully.
Ensure driven sheaves and belts have been removed.
Remove shaft black coating with a solvent similar to brake/carburetor cleaner.
Scribe a line around the shaft by both bearings and around the bearing base to the bearing support or write down the measurement from the end of the shaft to the bearings.
30 Daily Fan Maintenance
Fan Operation
Run each fan for a minimum of 30 minutes
Ensure all electrical and mechanical components reach operating temperature
Condensation and Load Redistribution
Check for any condensation formed on the fan components
Redistribute load on bearings by running the fan
Redistribute grease in motor and shaft bearings
Operating Conditions
Are there any changes in operating conditions (speed, pressure, temperature)?
