Replace the pressure relief valve assembly

Was the replacement valve specified or provided by the Gorman‐Rupp Company?

Remove the pressure relief valve for inspection

Inspect the valve for any signs of damage or wear

Apply Loctite Pipe Sealant With Teflon No.592 on the relief valve threads

Install a vacuum gauge in the system using pipe dope on the threads

Record the vacuum reading at operating speed

Is the vacuum 20 inches (508.0 mm) or more of mercury?

If vacuum is less than 20 inches, check for air leaks in the seal, gasket, or discharge valve

Inspect, Clean, Adjust, Repair or Replace as Necessary

Clean the Air Release Valve Plunger Rod (If So Equipped)

Measure and record the bearing temperature using a contact-type thermometer

Is the bearing temperature within the normal range (up to 160F/71C)?

Is the bearing lubricant of the proper viscosity?

Is the lubricant at the correct level?

Is there any sudden increase in bearing temperature?

Are there signs of shaft misalignment or excessive vibration?

Lubricate bearings if necessary
