Pump / Seal Disassembly
Safety Precautions
Review all SAFETY information in Section A
Ensure all power to the motor is shut off at the control box
Use a lifting device with sufficient capacity
Ensure load is balanced when using slings or chains
Take necessary precautions to prevent personal contamination if handling sewage
Select a suitable indoor location for maintenance
Ensure all work is performed by qualified personnel
Troubleshooting
Initial 200 Hours Pump Lubrication
WARNING: Safety Precautions
Ensure the pump is completely cooled before servicing.
Do not remove plates, covers, gauges, pipe plugs or fittings from an overheated pump.
Initial Oil Check and Replacement
Check the oil level in the seal cavity before initial startup.
Drain and replace the oil after the first 200 hours of operation.
Regular Oil Level Checks
Check the oil level in the seal cavity after the first two weeks of operation.
Check the oil level in the seal cavity every month thereafter.
Pump End Disassembly
Preparing Pump for Disassembly
Use the hoisting bail to remove the pump from the wet well or sump
Move the pump to a suitable location for disassembly
Ensure the pump is not lifted by the motor power cable or the piping
Attach proper lifting equipment to the lifting device fitted to the pump
Ensure chains or cables are positioned to avoid damage and balance the load
Guide Shoe Removal (Optional)
Is removal of the guide shoe desired?
Disengage the hardware securing the guide shoe to the pump casing
Upper Seal Removal
Preparation
Secure the pump in an inverted position for further disassembly.
Seal Plate and Retaining Ring Removal
Remove the seal plate as described in Lower Seal Removal.
Remove the seal retaining ring using snap ring pliers.
Seal Spring and Washer Removal
Remove the spring centering washer and seal spring.
Rotor Shaft Preparation
Lubricate the seal area of the rotor shaft and work oil up under the bellows.
Seal Cavity Test
Preparation
Ensure water-tight integrity of the motor was not disturbed during disassembly
Drain all oil from the seal cavity
Vacuum Connection
Connect the vacuum pump or compressor/venturi system to the pump at the seal cavity drain plug hole
Vacuum Test
Draw the seal cavity vacuum down to not more than 10 In. Hg.
Hold the vacuum for 10 minutes
