Reversing Valve And Solenoid Check
Initial System Check
Start the system and switch operation from COOLING to HEATING cycle
Did the valve change its position?
Voltage Testing at Valve Coil Terminals
Test the voltage (24V) at the valve coil terminals while the system is on the COOLING cycle
Is voltage registered at the coil terminals?
Thermostat and Wiring Check (Legacy Systems)
Is the system a legacy wired heat pump?
Check the operation of the thermostat and continuity of the connecting wiring from the 'O' terminal of the thermostat to the unit
Wiring Check
HIGH VOLTAGE!
Visual Inspection
Check wiring visually for signs of
Continuity Check
Use an ohmmeter to check continuity of any suspected open wires
Wire Replacement
Do any wires need to be replaced?
Replace wires with comparable gauge and insulation thickness
Defrost Thermostat Testing
Temperature Test Lead Installation
Install a thermocouple type temperature test lead on the tube adjacent to the defrost control.
Insulate the lead point of contact.
Contact Closure Temperature Check
Record the temperature at which Part # 0130M00009P closes its contacts (2 and 2.5 ton units).
Is the closure temperature within 34°F ± 5°F for Part # 0130M00009P?
Record the temperature at which Part # 0130M00001P or B1370803 closes its contacts (3 thru 5 ton units).
Is the closure temperature within 31°F ± 3°F for Part # 0130M00001P or B1370803?
Record the temperature at which Part # 0130M00085 closes its contacts (units with 5 mm coils).
Heater Limit Control Check
Safety Precautions
Disconnect all power before servicing
Limit Control Testing
Remove the wiring from the control terminals
Test for continuity across the normally closed contacts using an ohmmeter
Is the control open?
Replace the control if found open
Post-Testing
Ensure the limits are cool before testing
System Charge
WARNING: REFRIGERANT UNDER PRESSURE!
Safety Precautions
CAUTION
Refrigerant Handling Precautions
Charging Procedure
Charge the system with the exact amount of refrigerant
Refer to specification section or unit nameplates for correct refrigerant charge
Allow liquid refrigerant only to enter the high side using an ambient compensated calibrated charging cylinder
Close the valve on the high side of the charging manifold after the system takes all it can
