Disconnect all power before servicing

Remove the wiring from the control terminals

Test for continuity across the normally closed contacts using an ohmmeter

Replace the control if found open

Start the system and switch operation from COOLING to HEATING cycle

Did the valve change its position?

Voltage Testing at Valve Coil Terminals

Test the voltage (24V) at the valve coil terminals while the system is on the COOLING cycle

Is voltage registered at the coil terminals?

Thermostat and Wiring Check (Legacy Systems)

Is the system a legacy wired heat pump?

Check the operation of the thermostat and continuity of the connecting wiring from the 'O' terminal of the thermostat to the unit

Disconnect all power sources before servicing or installing.

Ensure fuse, circuit breaker, and ground fault protective device have not tripped.

Remove the leads from the compressor terminals.

Test continuity using an ohmmeter between terminals

Is continuity present in all tested windings?

Ensure all open flames are extinguished

Turn off electrical power and other heat sources

Verify that the following components are properly in place and secured

Was the hermetic system properly evacuated during manufacture and servicing?

Does the test indicate shorted, grounded, or open windings?

Check for 24 volts at thermostat wires C and Y in the condensing unit control panel

Is there voltage at thermostat wires C and Y?

Check the continuity of the thermostat and wiring. Repair or replace as necessary.

Set fan selector switch at thermostat to 'ON' position.

Check for 24 volts at wires C and G with voltmeter.

Is there voltage at wires C and G?

Check the continuity of the thermostat and wiring. Repair or replace as necessary.
