Record the initial manifold pressure reading.

Is the manifold pressure within the acceptable range (3.5 inches water column for natural gas or 10 inches water column for propane gas)?

Adjust the pressure regulator direction

Record the final manifold pressure reading after adjustment.

Propane Gas Specific Instructions

Ensure no unit gas valve regulator is used for propane gas.

Turn on the furnace at the thermostat

Wait a few minutes for dust to settle

Check the burner flames for the following characteristics

Are the flames stable, quiet, soft and blue with slightly orange tips?

Are the flames extending directly outward from the burner ports without curling downward, floating or lifting off the ports?

Check that the new or cleaned filter is properly installed

Ensure all other gas appliances are turned off

Wait for at least fifteen minutes after the heating cycle has started

Clock the gas meter to determine the time for one complete revolution of the cubic foot dial

Enter the time recorded for one complete revolution (in seconds)

Enter the calorific value of the gas (BTU per cubic foot)

Calculate the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour

Disconnect all power before servicing or installing the unit

Check the following furnace components for proper working order

Ensure only a qualified servicer handles the ignitor

Was the ignitor handled with care, avoiding bare fingers and rough handling?

Were all necessary repairs or services performed?
