Turn the furnace on at the thermostat

Wait a few minutes for dust to settle

Check the burner flames for the following characteristics

Are the flames stable, quiet, soft and blue with slightly orange tips?

Do the flames extend directly outward from the burner ports without curling downward, floating or lifting off the ports?

Ensure the air cleaner is installed in the correct position (not with the access door facing down).

Verify the air cleaner is located in the return air duct next to the blower compartment.

Electronic Air Cleaner Inspection

Inspect the accessibility of the electronic air cleaner for periodic inspection and cleaning.

Check the pre-filters and electronic cells for cleanliness.

Inspect the accessibility of the media air cleaner for periodic inspection and replacement of the filter cartridge.

Verify the availability of the following filter cartridges

Connect a manometer to the outlet tap at the gas valve before adjusting the pressure regulator.

Record the initial manifold pressure in inches of water column.

Is the manifold pressure within the acceptable range for natural gas (3.5 ± 3 inches water column)?

Is the manifold pressure within the acceptable range for propane gas (10 ± 3 inches water column)?

Adjust the pressure regulator by turning clockwise to increase pressure and counterclockwise to decrease pressure.

Record the final manifold pressure after adjustment.

Propane Gas Specific Instructions

Disconnect all power before servicing or installing the unit

Check the following furnace components for proper working order

Was the ignitor handled with care?

Was the ignitor handled by a qualified servicer?

Were all necessary repairs or services performed?

Ensure all other gas appliances are turned off

Ensure the heating cycle has been in operation for at least fifteen minutes

Record the time in seconds for one complete revolution of the cubic foot dial

Enter the number of cubic feet of gas consumed per hour

Enter the calorific value of the gas (BTU per cubic foot)

Calculate and enter the BTU input to the furnace
