Fan And Blower Motor Check

Remove the motor leads from its respective connection points and capacitor (if applicable).

Check mark

Check the continuity between each of the motor leads.

Check mark

Touch one probe of the ohmmeter to the motor frame (ground) and the other probe in turn to each lead.

Check mark

If the windings do not test continuous or a reading is obtained from lead to ground, replace the motor.

Disconnect the 5-pin connector from the motor.

Check for line voltage at terminals #4 & #5 at the power connector using a volt meter.

If no voltage is present, check the unit for incoming power and the control board.

Cycle Protector Check

Check mark

Some models feature a solid state, delay-on make after break time delay relay installed in the low voltage circuit. This control is used to prevent short cycling of the compressor under certain operating conditions.

The component is normally closed (R1 to Y1 ). A power interruption will break circuit (R1 to Y1 ) for approximately three minutes before resetting.

1. Remove wire from Y1 terminal.

2. Wait for approximately four (4) minutes if machine was running.

1. Apply 24 VAC to terminals R1 and R2.

2. Should read 24 VAC at terminals Y1 and Y2.

Time Delay Relay Check

WARNING: Disconnect ALL power before servicing.

Check mark

Tag and disconnect all wires from male spade connections of relay.

Check mark

Measure the resistance across terminals H1 and H2 using an ohmmeter.

Check mark

Check for continuity across terminals 3 and 1, and 4 and 5 using an ohmmeter.

Check mark

Apply 24 volts to terminals H1 and H2.

Check mark

Check for continuity across other terminals after applying 24 volts.

Check mark

Replace the relay if continuity is not as expected.

Check mark

Note: The time delay for the contacts to make will be approximately 20 to 50 seconds and to open after the coil is de-energized is approximately 40 to 90 seconds.

Check for 24 volts from terminal C to either terminal 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5

Is 24 volts present from terminal C to the selected terminal?

Check 24 volt circuit to motor if no voltage is present

Determine if the motor has failed based on voltage presence
