Are the independent actuators for fuel, air, and FGR coordinated?

Ensure optimum combustion throughout the firing range.

Ensure the boiler has been operating for a sufficient period to assure a warm boiler.

Verify the use of a combustion or flue gas analyzer for adjustments.

Record the O2 level in the flue gas.

Record the CO level in the flue gas (in ppm).

Is the CO level less than 400 ppm?

Gas Pressure and Flow Adjustment

Determine the actual gas flow from a meter reading.

Turn the main electrical disconnect switch to the burner to 'Off'.

Is the burner operating in a damp environment?

Cover the burner with plastic to protect all electrical components from moisture.

Remove burner control and store in a dry area.

Ensure the pilot gas regulator is accessible

Verify that the flame detector is operational

Measure the flame signal using a microamp or voltage reading

Is the flame size sufficient to ignite the main flame and visible to the flame detector?

Is the flame size too large, causing sooting or carbon buildup?

Adjust the gas flow through the pilot gas regulator as necessary

Ensure the FGR valve is in the nearly closed position

Start the burner and hold at low-fire until the boiler reaches the proper operating pressure or temperature

Record NOx levels using an analyzer in the stack

Adjust the FGR valve cam screw to obtain <30 ppm NOx levels

Monitor O2 levels during the adjustment process
