Verify the use of a combustion or flue gas analyzer for adjustments.

Record the initial O2 levels in the flue gas.

Record the initial CO levels in the flue gas (in ppm).

Gas Pressure and Flow Adjustment

Determine the standard conditions of gas pressure and flow for the boiler size.

Calculate the actual gas pressure and flow using correction factors.

Inspect the nozzle for any visible damage or clogging

Inspect the screen inside the nozzle for particles

Unscrew the tip from the nozzle body to access internal parts

Clean the screen, swirler, and tip using solvent

Ensure no wire or sharp metal tools are used for cleaning

Reassemble the nozzle ensuring the swirler is seated tight against the tip

Verify the tailpiece is screwed in properly for proper atomization

Burner Information Verification

Verify burner information from the data plate

Ensure pre-startup tasks and checklist have been completed

Has the boiler fully warmed up?

Enter the current manifold pressure

Calculate the correct manifold pressure at maximum firing rate

Inspect all controls, connecting piping, wiring, and fastenings

Ensure no damage or misadjustments occurred during shipment and installation

Measure carbon dioxide (CO2) levels

Measure carbon monoxide (CO) levels

Is the air-fuel ratio properly set based on flue gas analysis?

Ensure only factory authorized burner service personnel start up, adjust, or service the equipment.

Ensure all cover plates, enclosures, or guards are securely anchored before testing, adjusting, or running the burner or related equipment.

Examine electrical connections for any issues.

Clean the controls and remove any dust from the interior.

Ensure control cabinet doors are closed to prevent dust and dirt entry.

Programming Control Maintenance

Clean the flame detector lens as often as conditions demand.
