Gauges, Monitors, and Indicators

Make visual inspection of the following

Record temperature monitor reading

Record fuel level indicator reading

Instrument and Equipment Settings

Make visual check against recommended specifications for

Low Water, Fuel Cutoff, and Alarms

Refer to instructions for low water and fuel cutoff checks

Ensure the pilot gas regulator is accessible

Verify that the flame detector is operational

Measure the flame signal using a microamp or voltage reading

Is the flame size sufficient to ignite the main flame and visible to the flame detector?

Is the flame size overly large causing sooting or carbon buildup?

Adjust the gas flow through the pilot gas regulator as necessary

Leave the gas pilot shutoff cock open

Did the pilot light upon completion of the pre-purge period?

Are the main fuel valves energized without main flame?

Did the fuel valves de-energize within four seconds after the main burner ignition trial ends?

Ensure the boiler has operated for a sufficient period to assure a warm boiler.

Verify the butterfly gas valve is controlling the rate of flow.

Determine the actual gas flow from a meter reading at high-fire.

Is the actual flow rate close to the required input with the butterfly valve open and regulated gas pressure set?

If corrections are necessary, describe the adjustments made to the gas pressure regulator.

Take a flue gas analysis reading when proper gas flow is obtained.

Inspect the nozzle for any visible damage or clogging

Unscrew the tip from the nozzle body

Clean the nozzle parts in solvent

Ensure no wire or sharp metal tools are used for cleaning

Verify proper atomization after reassembly
